A Polaroid Exploration

As a self-proclaimed photography snob (anybody that knows me would not contest this statement)..

I was never really into Polaroid photography. Why on Earth would anybody want to take a blurry, out-of-focus picture? The last six months I have really come to discover who I am as a photographer. I have played with alternative processes and toy cameras in the past several years, but never really took it seriously. After all a “professional photographer” needs to be shooting with the most modern equipment that they could get their hands on, otherwise they are no pro.. This is what living in Boulder, Colorado has taught me. During my recent four-month stint in Portland, OR, I have met several photographers that really love photography, not just love the attention they gain from it.

I suppose the difference between Boulder and PDX is the way photography perceived by the public. In Portland, people assume you’re an artist and in Boulder they assume you just do it for the money.

I have come to understand and embrace the idea of, “You either get what I do, or you don’t get what I do“. I hope you do get it, and if you do… We should sit and talk. If you don’t, that’s cool, no hard feelings and let’s move on.

Hey, by the way, this is what I did today and I would not have been able to do with out my wonderful benefactors, Mr. R. N. Velcheck for loaning me a Polaroid OneStep Close Up, and Lory Horton for loaning me a Polaroid ONE600 and giving me all of that expired Polaroid film.

The First Four Frames

My new adventure into Polaroid 600 begins. I have expressed an interest in picking up a Polaroid camera, I ordered a pack of Impossible PX680 and Lory my housemate tells me she has a Polaroid camera, comes out with a Polaroid ONE600 and 4 unopened packs of Polaroid 600 film (expired 12/2006). Yes, I am stoked!

After the Rain

It doesn’t rain as often in Boulder as it does in the NW, it’s nice when it does though..
